Meet PPI North America
The leaders in autogas tank innovation
Propane Performance Industries (PPI) is a New Zealand-based autogas tank company with a presence in Australia, Europe, China, and North America. PPI North America is PPI’s North American division. PPI, the autogas tank company, is primarily focused on the manufacture and distribution of the revolutionary Conformable Tank (CT®) and advocating the development of alternate fuel systems. The Conformable Tank is a unique, flat autogas tank that’s designed to maximize efficiency and minimize space occupancy on vehicles.
PPI is a supplier to General Motors (GM) Holden Limited and has an extensive background in Automotive Engineering, Sales and Marketing.
The CT® autogas tank is made from aluminum, which has significant benefits over steel including the ability to form a far more efficiently shaped tank, reduced weight and the inability of the tank to rust.
However, it is the design of the tanks that is the key – enabling greater capacity than a cylinder for any given diameter and length.
The CT autogas tank is the future for propane fuel storage in vehicles.
Our Success In Autogas Tank Innovation
GM Holden approached us in 2009 to see if we could design a product for the dedicated LPG Commodore range they were developing. That led PPI and Holden on a product validation process taking two and a half years.
There were many late nights and concepts and a lot of testing but we got there in the end, and it was all worth it. With our help and expertise GM Holden won silver in the Society of Automotive Engineers Australasia (SAE-
“A conformable tank design is adaptable to the available space under the vehicle floor, resulting in major efficiency gains in mass, usable fuel volume and range. This project demonstrated an innovative use of Aluminum and mass reducing design and integrated important features, including the lightweight shield, bonded crash pad and fusible safety plug. Aluminum enables complex, extruded shapes.”
