Using propane to increase power and save fuel costs in a diesel engine – Farm operators, over-the-road truckers and construction equipment operators are starting to take a hard look at using propane injected into a diesel engine to gain several advantages, including more power and reduced cost.
Those marketing the dual-fuel system claim it is one of the most viable options and advancements to the diesel engine available.
A spokesman for LP Energy Systems said this technology provides the customer with a safe, emission reducing, cost effective and performance enhancing system for diesel engines of nearly all types, whether mobile or stationary, regardless of the model and age.
The propane vapor injection system is boost activated, injecting propane in vapor form into the fresh air charge prior to the turbo charger. The amount of propane vapor injected is based upon the boost pressure of the engine. Propane acts as an accelerant, promoting a more even burn of the diesel fuel resulting in more power, better fuel efficiency, lower operating costs and lower emissions.
